Picture this: First day in a master class for painting--the master put a lemon on a stand and tells his students to paint it. They set about painting, when they were done the master critiqued them. "You did well, but you didn't paint a portrait of the lemon--paint again." Which they did. When I read this, I decided I would do a portrait of all I painted.
Then, early on in my training with my own master, he explained a difference between artist's styles. He said one artist will paint and details can be seen from far away, but when you look at the painting close up, you see the brush strokes. It shouts about the artist. The other type of painter paints so the details are sharp, whether far away or close. The painting is important, not just the artist.
I decided then and there I would be the last type of artist, the painting is the focal point. That is why all my works are what they call "Classical Realism.
The fun thing I love doing is painting a bead somewhere in each oil painting that people love searching for. I call it my trademark.
Enjoy perusing the joy and specificity in my paintings and I hope you will want to take one (or two) home with you.
